This curriculum module is designed to introduce emergent English Language Learners (ELLs) in Grades K-2 to foundational vocabulary and simple concepts related to local industrial history, community, and environmental stewardship, specifically focusing on the Philadelphia context. The subject covered is an intersection of local Social Studies (community/jobs) and Science (environmental impact/cause-and-effect). The module synthesizes core ESL pedagogy, which emphasizes concrete, hands-on learning with localized content, to build both language and content knowledge simultaneously.
