This module is designed to address the complicated relationship between heroism and action in the Iliad. It is designed to be a supplement to the Odyssey in the 9th grade Study Sync curriculum. It was created with my students’ developmental needs in mind as they are coming into an environment (high school) where they will encounter increased expectations from their peers and adults, and they will have to respond to the demands of personal responsibility and agency. The concept of the hero is the perfect entryway to help examine these life themes, and this lesson plan will strive to peel back the concept of the heroes as they know it.
