Philadelphia’s environmental history, which is the study of how the human and nonhuman worlds change over time, teaches us a very important lesson: planning is important to progress, and progress cannot continue without planning. The classroom activities presented in this module seek to help students see the need for constant updating of “good ideas” if the city is to continue to move towards a better future. Students will be tasked with thinking about how the city might look in the not-too-distant future and make a plan that combats pollution while promoting sustainability. Students will use the principals of biophilia to imagine a future Philadelphia.
