2024 Spring Seminar: The Past, Present, and Future of Latinx Studies October 23, 2023 – Posted in: Uncategorized

As our society becomes more interconnected and culturally diverse, the need to gain a deeper understanding of the history of Latinx communities becomes increasingly important. The upcoming spring 2024 TIP seminar titled “The Past, Present, and Future of Latinx Studies” taught by Professor Rebeca L. Hey-Colón will give participants valuable insights into the rich history of Latinx heritage and its ever-evolving presence in the United States. Hey-Colón is an Assistant Professor at Temple University in the Spanish and Portuguese department with expertise in Afro-Latinx and Latinx Studies.

Hey-Colón will begin the seminar by providing participants with a historical and theoretical framework to help them understand the changes in Latinx presence in the United States overtime. Participants will engage in conversations questioning what it means to evoke “the Latinx experience” through the discussions and analysis of key Latinx cultural products, such as literature, music and film. This seminar will explore how Latinx studies complicates constructions of class, ethnicity, gender, language, race, and more in the United States, Latin America and the Carribean.
