Seminar Leader Marilyn Howarth featured in Penn Today August 24, 2020 – Posted in: Uncategorized

Seminar leader and UAC member Marilyn Howarth was featured in Penn Today discussing her work to identify children exposed to lead poisoning, develop intervention programs and educate Philadelphia communities about the risks of lead. She and her colleague Richard Pepino, who spoke at last year’s Celebration of Writing and Literacy, have worked together with multiple partners, from local entities like the Overbrook Environmental Education Center to federal agencies like the CDC and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Pepino teaches an Academic Based Community Service (ABCS) course about lead at Penn which sends students into fourth to seventh grade classrooms in West Philadelphia to pass on their newfound knowledge. Last year Howarth taught the TIP seminar Lead and Health which examined pathways of exposure and discussed lead policy at the federal, state and local level.
