Yale Fellows Complete Their Units of Study August 16, 2026

The Teachers Institute of Philadelphia’s three Yale fellows, Bill Chenevert, Alima McKnight, and Kati Steiner, submitted units of study on August 14, completing Yale’s National Summer Intensive program.

In the program, the teachers joined others from around the nation in seminars organized by TIP’s parent program, the Yale National Initiative. They began reading for the seminars in the spring of 2024, and beginning July 6, traveled to New Haven for two weeks of study with a Yale professor. As in the seminars TIP offers in Philadelphia, teachers engaged intensely with a topic through reading and research and wrote a curriculum unit for use in their classroom.

The three fellows’ and their enrollments were as follows:

  • Kati Steiner, Academy at Palumbo: “The Kids are not the Threat,” led by Rod Ferguson, William Robertson Coe Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and Professor of American Studies
  • Bill Chenevert, George W. Nebinger School: “Resistance from Aristotle to Star Wars,” led by Feisal Mohamed, Professor of English
  • Alima McKnight, Richmond School: “Asian American History and the Making of the US Immigration System,” led by Mary Lui, Professor of American Studies and of History

The three fellows will reunite with their national colleagues in November at Yale’s annual conference. There, they will celebrate their accomplishments and share the results of the use of their units in the classroom. More information about the program can be found on Yale’s website.
