TIP Teachers Named Yale National Fellows April 14, 2025 – Posted in: Uncategorized
Five members of the TIP program have been selected as 2025 National Fellows by the Yale National Initiative to strengthen public schools. They will travel to Yale University in July to participate in seminars led by Yale faculty, alongside peers from around the country. As they do at TIP, these School District of Philadelphia teachers will study a topic intensively under the guidance of their professor and develop a curriculum unit to be implemented into their classroom. The fellows and their Yale seminars are as follows:
- Katherine Steiner, Academy at Palumbo: “Art, Design & Biology,” led by Timothy Barringer, Paul Mellon Professor in the History of Art
- Marla Colondres, Swenson Arts and Technology High School, and Alima McKnight, Richmond School: “Graphic Narratives as Teaching Tools,” led by Marta Figlerowicz, Associate Professor of Comparative Literature
- Danina Garcia, Vaux Big Picture High School: “Infectious Respiratory Diseases,” led by Jordan Peccia, Thomas E. Golden Jr. Professor of Environmental Engineering
- Anna Herman, The U School: “Teaching With and Through Maps,” led by Ayesha Ramachandran, Professor of Comparative Literature
All five fellows are also members of TIP’s Teachers Advisory Council. In November, the fellows will return to New Haven to celebrate their completion of the program at Yale’s Annual Conference, which will also be attended by school administrators from participating school systems around the country.
