TIP Fellows Present their Units at Annual Educator Convening October 16, 2019 – Posted in: Uncategorized
TIP fellows contributed enthusiastically to the Celebration of Writing and Literacy (CoWL) on Saturday, October 12, 2019, an annual convening that brought teachers and scholars from around the region. It was the third year TIP will partnered with the Philadelphia Writing Project on this event, in which teachers share self-authored curricula and research. Presentation sessions by TIP fellows showcased materials from 2019 seminars in Philadelphia and at Yale, and included “Intercultural Storytelling,” “Lead and Health,” “Modern and Contemporary U.S. Poetry in K-12 Classrooms,” “Philadelphia Criminal Justice, Past, Present and Future,” and “Learning about America and the World from McDonald’s.”
Keynote speakers were Nicole Mirra, Assistant professor of urban teacher education at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, who presented on her book Educating for Empathy; and Shani Robinson and Anna Simonton, who presented on their book None of the Above: The Untold Story of the Atlanta Public Schools Cheating Scandal, Corporate Greed, and the Criminal ization of Educators.
